1.0 OBJECTIVE: 1.1 To lay down the procedure for Handling of Hazardous Chemicals. 2.0 SCOPE: 2.1 This procedure is applicable for the Handling of Hazardous Chemicals in Quality Control. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: 3.1 Quality Control Executive is responsible to follow procedure as per the procedure mentioned in this SOP. 3.2 QC Head is responsible for implementation and compliance of the procedure as per this SOP. 4.0 ABBREVIATIONS 4.1 SOP : Standard Operating Procedure 5.0 PROCEDURE: 5.1 Handling of hazardous chemicals shall be done in presence of a Supervisor. 5.2 Use acid proof hand gloves, safety goggles, respirator and other protective Gear. 5.3 Transfer of hazardous chemicals or solution preparation shall be done in fuming hood only. 5.4 Keep away from chemical container, while pouring out or siphoning the chemicals. 5.5 Use suction bulb or vacuum during pipetting of solution. 5.6 Special precautions shall be taken while preparing dilute solutions of Sulphuric acid, perchloric acid and chromic acid. 5.7 For making dilute solution of sulphuric acid, first cool water in ice bath. Slowly add sulphuric acid into the water with constant stirring. Never follow vice versa procedure other wise the solution may bump out due to heat. 5.8 Inflammable liquids and substances shall be kept away from naked flame or electric spark. 5.9 Spillage shall be cleaned immediately. 5.10 Preserve the chemicals in the respective storage cabinets. 5.11 Poisonous chemicals shall be stored in lock and key with label on the cupboard indicating that they are dangerous and poisonous. 5.12 Follow the “safety signs” on the reagent bottles and take adequate precautions while handling them. |
