| 1.0 PROCEDURE 1.1 Description: White, crystalline masses, supplied as pellets, sticks or slabs, deliquescent, readily absorbing Carbon dioxide, Spread about 2.0 g of sample in a clean dry Petri dish and observe with unaided eye and observe against specification. To read this GTP click here Method of analysis of Hydrochloric Acid. 1.1.1 Assay: By Titrimetry (95.0 % to 105.0 %) Weight about 2.0 gram, dissolve in about 80.0millilitre of carbon dioxide-free water, add 0.3 ml of phenolphthalein soln. and titrate with 1Mol HCl. Add 0.3 ml of methyl orange soln. and continue the titration with 1M HCl. Each ml of 1M hydrochloric acid(HCL) used in the second part of the titration is equivalent to 0.1060 g of Na2CO3. Each ml of 1M hydrochloric acid(HCl) used in the combined titrations is equivalent to 0.0400 gm of total alkali, calculated as NaOH(Sodium Hydroxide). Calculation: % Assay = BR X Molarity of HCl X 0.0400 x 100 / Wt. of sample x 1 Where BR= volume in 1M Hydrochloric acid consumed in the titration |
