1.0 OBJECTIVE:-
1.1 To remove scratches and burrs from punch surface and die bores in production.
2.0 SCOPE: –
2.1 To enhance the life of dies and punches in production. This procedure is applicable for polishing of Die bores and punch tip surfaces to avoid roughness.

5.0 Procedure
5.1 Take out punch and die from Die punch cabinet and kept in punch handling tray and take it to
Maintenance department.
5.2 Remove the safety guard of motorized chuck and set the punch head in adjustable guard cum support plate and close the safety guard.
5.3 Apply chalk powder on the Die/Punch surface then apply micro polishing paste.
5.4 Fix the required size and type of felt bob or hard wood bob in the high speed grinder
5.5 Give the air supply to high speed grinder (Not less than 3.0 kg./cm2 ).
5.6 Give the power supply to motorized chuck so the die / punch starts rotating. Keeped the bob against the rotating die/punch tip so that the polishing starts
5.7 For the inside of the die wall first use hard wood bob and then use felt bob.
5.8 For polishing concave punches or marking (embossing) punches first use lipping sticks than
5.9 Similarly for heavy burrs the brass wheel to be used for polishing of punch tip.
5.10 Continue the above process till the burrs and scratches are removed from the punch surface and die bores.
5.11 Observe the punch tip / die bores with the help of eye glass to ensure that the die bores / punch tips are free from scratches and burrs.
5.12 SAFETY:
5.12.1 Always keep the punches/dies on plastic strips to prevent the damage to die / punch surfaces.
5.12.2 While operating motorized chuck always keep the adjustable guard in enclosed condition to prevent accidents
5.12.3 FREQUENCY : Whenever the heavy burrs or scratches are observed in punch surface Die bores.
