Operation and Calibration of Bursting Strength Tester |
1.0 OBJECTIVE To lay down a procedure for the Operation and Calibration of Bursting Strength Tester. 2.0 SCOPE This Procedure is applicable for the Operation and Calibration of Bursting Strength Tester in Quality control department. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY QC – Officer/ Sr. Officer/ Executive/ Sr. Executive and above. 4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY Head-QC 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Ensure the cleanliness of the instrument. 5.2 “Switch ON” the main supply after that switch on the machine. This will bring the plunger to its starting position (please note that if the plunger is already at its starting position, motor will not start on switch). There is LCD Display and Keyboard present on the top of machine. 5.3 Raise the tripod and upper clamping plate by rotating clamp wheel. 5.4 Place representative sample of the material to be tested over the diaphragm and lower the clamping plate. The sample should be at least 10×10 mm in size. 5.5 Lower tripod plate applying sufficient clamping pressure to prevent slip of the sample between plates during test. Note: In testing corrugated board, it is recommended that tripod plate be lowered to position where it rests on top of sample. Then give clamp wheel one-quarter turn. 5.6 Set the Display at zero or at point on the scale below the point at which bursting will occur. 5.7 Push the button and keep it pressed, so that plunger will start rotating in anti-clockwise direction at a constant speed until the sample burst. 5.8 This will automatically reverse the direction of plunger and it will come and stop to its starting position, the motor will stop automatically in this position. 5.9 Record the bursting pressure indicated by the maximum hand. 5.10 Repeat the procedure on five different samples as necessary to obtain average bursting pressure. 5.11 Avoid overlapping of the clamping areas and disregard any single reading that is not consistent with those taken in neighboring areas. 5.12 After completion of the operation procedure, fill the entry in Instrument usage log book of Bursting strength apparatus as per respective SOP. 5.13 Calibration: 5.13.1 Calibrate the instrument using standard aluminium foil having known standard bursting strength and record the observation as per format number XXX. 5.14 Frequency: Half Yearly |
