1.0 OBJECTIVE To lay down the Procedure for Cleaning and Sanitization of Microbiology Laboratory. 2.0 SCOPE This procedure is applicable for Cleaning and sanitization of Microbiology laboratory in the Quality Control Department of Microbiology Area. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY • Laboratory attendant/ Microbiologist : is responsible for cleaning and maintain record • Manager microbiology : is responsible for ensuring that the SOP is followed correctly 4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY • Department Head 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Safety and Precaution 5.1.1 Don’t stands on any item unsafely during cleaning of false ceiling and glass panels. 5.1.2 Don’t touch any electrical switches wet cloth. 5.1.3 Use goggles during cleaning of location above range like panel/false ceiling. 5.1.4 Cleaning and Sanitization of Microbiology laboratory 5.2 Disinfectant preparation. 5.2.1 Prepare disinfectant.. 5.3 Cleaning and sanitization of Microbiology Laboratory. To read this SOP Click here SOP for Environment Monitoring In Microbiology Lab. 5.4 There are three ways of lab cleaning. 5.4.1 Waste collection from waste bin. 5.4.2 Dry cleaning (de-dusting) through dry mop or vacuum pump. 5.4.3 Wet cleaning with damp mop in purified water. 5.4.4 Cleaning and Sanitization of Microbiology laboratory 5.5 There are two ways of lab sanitation 5.5.1 Cleaning with disinfectant solution 5.5.2 Fogging with disinfectant solution 5.6 Cleaning & sanitization of Microbial Limit Test area/Bio-safety cabinet. 5.6.1 Scheduled disinfectant solution and other cleaning accessories shall be transferred to the MLT room through the dynamic pass box. 5.6.2 After collection the waste area shall be cleaned first damp (damp in purified water) lint free mop followed by damp (in scheduled disinfectant solution) lint free mop. 5.6.3 The sequence of cleaning order shall be from MLT-LAF Room, bio-safety room, bio-safety change room, MLT corridor, entry change room-3, change room-2. 5.6.4 MLT entry change Room-I & exit change room shall be cleaned with the outer corridor cleaning. 5.6.5 Cleaning & sanitization of MLT/bio-safety area shall be recorded in format XXX. 5.7 Cleaning and sanitization of sterility area. 5.7.1 Filtered scheduled disinfectant solution shall be transferred from corridor to unloading area of sterility room through the pass box. 5.7.2 The surface of other SS items and instrument in sterility area shall be cleaned & sanitized with a sterile damp lint free mop in 70% IPA. 5.7.3 After completion of cleaning activity remaining disinfectant solution and water from the container shall be pour into the sink of glassware cleaning. 5.8 Other surrounding controlled area cleaning & sanitization 5.8.1 Floor cleaning 5.8.1.1 Collect all the waste from waste bins into disposable poly bag transfer to the decontamination room. 5.8.1.2 First dry cleaning shall be done with vacuum cleaner or dry lint free mop. 5.8.1.3 After dry and wet cleaning sanitization shall be done disinfectant solution, required quaintly of disinfectant solution shall be prepared as per schedule 5.8.1.4 For sanitization dip the lint mop into disinfectant solution, squeeze it into empty bucket, and start moping. 5.8.2 Doors cleaning 5.8.2.1 First clean the doors with dry lint free mop. 5.8.2.2 After cleaning sanitize using damp mop in 70%IPA solution with clean lint free cloth. 5.8.2.3 Cleaning sequence shall be from top in bottom. 5.8.3 Glass/panel cleaning 5.8.3.1 First clean the glass and panel with dry lint free mop. 5.8.3.2 After dry cleaning, sanitize the glass and panel with the damp mop in 70% IPA solution. 5.8.3.3 Cleaning sequence shall be from top to bottom. 5.8.4 Tables, cross over benches, stools & SOP stand 5.8.4.1 First clean with dry lint free mapper 5.8.4.2 After dry cleaning, sanitize with damp mop in 70% IPA solution. 5.8.5 Cleaning of Lab instrument 5.8.5.1 First clean all the instruments (like incubators/autoclave/LAF/bio-safety/colony counter) with dry lint free mapper from the outer surface of instrument. 5.8.5.2 After completion of dry cleaning sanitize the outer surface with damp mop in 70% IPA solution. 5.8.3 Cleaning of false ceiling 5.8.6.1 Clean the wall and false ceiling of area by dry clean lint free mop using ladder/stool or long handle wiper, cleaning shall be started from inner corner to entry side of area. 5.8.6.2 After dry cleaning sanitize with damp mop in schedule disinfectant solution. 5.8.7 Cleaning of Pass box & trays 5.8.7.1 Clean the pass box and the trays inside and outside using damp mop in 70% IPA solution with clean lint free cloth. 5.8.8 Cleaning of drawers, cabinet 5.8.8.1 Remove the items from the drawers, cabinets and clean inside and outside using with clean lint free mop and sanitize with damp mop in 70%IPA solution. 5.8.4 Cleaning of waste bins: 5.8.9.1 Transfer the waste of waste bin in poly bag. Wipe the waste bins using scheduled disinfectant solution or 70%IPA solution with lint free cloth. 5.8.9.2 Transfer the waste to waste collection points 5.8.5 Electrical fitting & fixtures & riser 5.8.10.1 Clean the electrical fittings and fixtures using dry clean lint free cloth. 5.8.10.2 If required, cleaning of light fixture from inside shall be done engineering department on request by microbiology section. 5.8.10.3 Cleaning of riser and filters (like pass box, laminar air flow and bio-safety cabinet and garment cabinet from outside shall be done with dry lint free mop by microbiologist and from inside shall be done by engineering person on request by microbiology section as schedule or as when required. 5.8.6 Cleaning of sink 5.8.11.1 Use the routine scheduled disinfectant solution followed by tap water to clean the sink. 5.8.12 Following shall be the sequence for cleaning of general area 5.8.12.1 Media preparation & sterilization room, media storage room, washing room, documentation room, instrument room, BET room, BET testing change room, incubation room, discard room and final change room. 5.8.7 Cleaning of cleaning devices 5.8.13.1 Lint free mop/duster: Remove the mop/duster and wash it with detergent solution followed by tap water. Dip the mop/duster in disinfectant solution for approximately 10mintues, take squeeze and air dry it by hanging. 5.8.13.2 Mop stick cleaning: remove the lint free mop/duster and wash the stick with detergent solution followed by tap water. 5.8.13.3 SS containers Rinse the SS container with tap water rinse with purified water and wipe with lint free mop damp in 7% IPA using. 5.8.13.4 Disinfectant storage tank: wipe the outer surface of disinfectant storage tank with 70% IPA using lint free cloth. |
