1.0 OBJECTIVE: 1.1 To lay down the procedure for Handling of Spillage in Laboratory. 2.0 SCOPE: 2.1 This procedure is applicable for the Handling of Spillage in quality control department. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: 3.1 Quality Control Executive is responsible to follow procedure as per the procedure mentioned in this SOP. 3.2 QC Head is responsible for implementation and compliance of the procedure as per this SOP. 4.0 ABBREVIATIONS 4.1 SOP : Standard Operating Procedure 5.0 PROCEDURE: 5.1 Personnel working in the laboratory are to be made aware of handling the solvent and chemicals carefully to avoid spillage and accidents arising due to spillage. 5.2 Immediately after spillage, all the persons shall be informed in the laboratory, ensure that they should not walk on the spillage. 5.3 The sweeper is to be instructed to wear goggles, hand gloves and nose mask while cleaning. Take all the necessary safety precautions during cleaning. 5.4 Incase of corrosive liquids, if spillage occurs put sand on the effected area and remove sand and discard in dustbin and then mop with cloth and wipe with wet cloth. 5.5 Incase of spillage of solids they are to be removed and discarded in the dustbin and the area is to be cleaned. 5.6 Incase of spillage of organic solvents, exhausts are to be put on. 5.7 Dry cloth mopping is to be done, solvent to be wiped with cloth into a vessel finally collect in a closed container for destruction. 5.8 In case of water spillage, mop with dry cloth. The wipe solvents are to be collected into a vessel and transferred to container meant for collecting waste for destruction. |
