Receipt, Storage and Stock Maintenance of Dehydrated Media In Microbiology Laboratory |
1.0 OBJECTIVE To lay down the Procedure for Receipt, Storage and Stock Maintenance of Dehydrated Media in Microbiology Laboratory. 2.0 SCOPE This procedure is applicable for Receipt, Storage and Stock Maintenance of Dehydrated Media in Microbiology Laboratory in the Quality Control Department of Microbiology Area. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY • Microbiologist : is responsible for receive, storage and maintain stock as per SOP. 4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY • Department Head 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Receipt of Dehydrated Media 5.1.1 Media Shall be received from the certified manufacture/supplier (Hi-media/Micro express) 5.1.2 During receiving the media container’s physical observation shall be done by microbiologist to check for media container seal integrity or any physical damage, if seal is found broken or media box is badly damaged then media shall be returned to supplier. 5.1.3 During receiving the media, the certificate of analysis of the media shall be cross checked and verified by microbiologist for expiry of media, storage condition of the media, and lot number of media. 5.1.4 After receiving of dehydrated media, GPT shall be performed within 10 days for each lot of media as per respective SOP. 5.1.5 Dehydrated media should not be used without GPT test, after passing in GPT, dehydrated media shall be ready for use. 5.1.6 Each newly received media box shall be tested and approved for GPT before taken in to routine use. 5.1.7 If same lot no of media is received in such case single box shall be checked for GPT initially. To Read this SOP Click Here SOP for Entry and Exit in Microbiology Testing Area. 5.2 Labelling and Numbering of the media containers 5.2.1 Enter received quantity of media in the format as mentioned in Format No. XXX and assign a container number to each container of media received. 5.2.2 Ensure each bath is accompanied with its certificate of analysis (COA). File the COA with the growth promotion test report of the medium. 5.2.3 Assigning a container, no, as AA/BB Where; AA = Container No. /= separator BB= total no. of container received. E.g. if 10 media container of are received the number of container will be 01/10 and so on. After entry in format No. XXX and given assigning no. affix a label on media container as per format No. XXX. 5.3 Storage of Dehydrated Media 5.3.1 The dehydrated media are highly hygroscopic and must be stored as per the supplier storage condition mentioned on the media label. 5.3.2 The temperature of the microbiological media storage room/facility shall be monitored through a min/max thermometer and the limit shall be followed as per the media storage requirement. 5.3.3 List of media having storage condition and pH limit shall be prepared as per format No. XXX. 5.4 Usage of Dehydrated Media 5.4.1 At the time of media preparation, media shall be taken and mentioned date of opening on label on container shall be written at the time of container opening. 5.4.2 Media container shall be used as per FIFO basis. 5.4.3 The opened media container shall be tightly closed and stored at media storage condition. |
