| 1.0 Scope: This procedure is applicable for preparation and standardization of 0.05 M silver nitrate solution. 2.0 Apparatus: 2.1 1000 ml and 250 ml volumetric flasks. 2.2 250 ml glass-stoppered, conical flask. 2.3 10 ml and 50 ml volumetric pipette 2.4 100 ml graduated burette 3.0 Reagents: 3.1 Silver nitrate AR grade 3.2 Sodium chloride AR grade 3.3 Acetic acid AR grade 3.4 Eosin solution 3.5 Methanol AR grade To read this SOP click here Preparation of 1 M Sulphuric acid. 4.0 Preparation of reagents: Eosin solution: Dissolve 0.5 g of eosin in sufficient distilled water to produce 100 ml and store in a well-fitted transparent glass bottle. 5.0 Preparation: Dissolve 8.50 gram of AgNo3 in a 1000ml volumetric flask sufficient distilled/purified water to produce 1000 ml. 6.0 Standardization: Weigh accurately about 0.05g of sodium chloride, previously dried at 110o for2 hours and dissolve in 5 ml of distilled water. Add 5.0 ml of acetic acid, 50.0 ml of methanol (CH3OH)and 0.15 ml of eosin solution indicator. Stir, preferably with magnetic stirrer, and titrate with the 0.05 M silver nitrate solution. Each ml of 0.05 M silver nitrate is equivalent to 0.002922 gm of NaCl. 7.0 Calculation: Wt. of NaCl x 0.05 M= ————————- V X 0.002922 Where: M = molarity of 0.05 M AgNo3 W = weight of sodium chloride in gm V = Consumed volume of 0.05M silver nitrate in ml 8.0 Storage: Store in well fitted amber coloured glass bottle. |
