0.1M Ammonium Thiocyanate |
1.0 Scope: This GTP is applicable for the preparation and standardization of 0.1M ammonium thiocyanate solution. 2.0 Apparatus: 2.1 1000ml volumetric flask 2.2 250ml glass-stoppered, conical flask 2.3 2ml and 10ml volumetric pipette 2.4 100ml graduated burette 2.5 100ml volumetric flask 3.0 Reagents: Ammonium thiocyanate AR Grade 0.1M silver nitrate solution Nitric acid AR grade Ferric ammonium sulphate solution Preparation of Reagents: Ferric ammonium sulphate solution preparation: Dissolve about 8 g ferric of ammonium sulphate in 50 ml water and dilute to 100 ml. 4.0 Preparation: Dissolve 7.612 gm of ammonium thiocyanate in sufficient purified water to produce 1000 ml. To read this GTP Click here Preparation and Standardization of 0.1M Ceric Ammonium Sulphate. 5.0 Standardization: Take 30.0 ml of 0.1 M silver nitrate(AgNo3) into a 250.0 ml glass-stoppered flask, dilute the sample with 50.0 ml of purified water/water for injection, add 2.0 ml of nitric acid and 2.0 ml of ferric ammonium sulphate soln. and titrate with the 0.1M ammonium thiocyanate solution to the first appearance of a red-brown colour produced. Each ml of 0.1 M silver nitrate is equivalent 0.007612 g of NH4SCN. 6.0 Calculation for Molarity: N1 *V1 = N2 *V2 N1(Molarity) = N2 *V2 / V1. Where: N1(Molarity) = Molarity of 0.1M ammonium thiocyanate solution V1 = burette reading of 0.1M ammonium thiocyanate in ml N2 = molarity of 0.1M AgNo3 V2 = 30 ml of 0.1 M silver nitrate soln. 7.0 Storage: Store in a well fitted transparent glass bottle. |
