1.0 OBJECTIVE To lay down a Procedure for Procedure for handling of spillage in microbiology laboratory. 2.0 SCOPE This procedure is applicable for Procedure for handling of spillage in microbiology laboratory in the Quality Control Department of Microbiology Area. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY • Lab-attendant/Microbiologist : is responsible for handle of microbiology spillage as per SOP. • Manager microbiology : is responsible for ensuring that the SOP is followed correctly. 4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY • Department Head To Read this SOP click here OP for Entry and Exit in Microbiology Testing Area. 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Safety considerations: 5.1.1 Microbiologist is aware of handling the microbial culture and microbial culture media carefully. So avoid spillage and accident arising due to spillage. 5.1.2 He/she shall take all the necessary safety precaution during putting spillage material and cleaning under the instruction if head of department. 5.1.3 Decontaminate all the material before disposing as per current Sop. 5.2 Procedure for spilled 5.2.1 If glassware is broken pick up to broken glassware pieces in Disposal yellow bags, and transfer the disposal bag in microbiology discarding area for discarding. 5.2.2 Remove trance of medium/microbial culture using a lint free cloth in dispo bags, and transfer the bags in discard area for discarding. 5.2.3 Spray 70% IPA and leave the area for 5mintues. 5.2.4 Mop the effected surface twice with as per scheduled disinfectant. 5.2.5 In case of spillage of culture/media of on LAF beach/pass box, clean the spillage with the help of lint free cloth soaked in 70%IPA, switch “ON” the UV light for 30mi, before of any activity in LAF/pass box. |
