Procedure For Testing Water Hardness |
1.0 OBJECTIVE: 1.1 To lay down a procedure for testing of hardness of water. 2.0 SCOPE: 2.1 This procedure is applicable for the Testing Water Hardness. 3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: 3.1 The concerned Technician shall carry out the Operating Procedure. 3.2 The Officer Engineering should be responsible for implementation of Operating Procedure. 3.3 Head of Engineering Department shall be responsible for compliance of Operating Procedure. 4.0 ABBREVIATIONS 4.1 SOP : Standard Operating Procedure 4.2 PPM : Parts per million To read this SOP click here Preparation Of Chemical Dosing Solution In EDI Plant. 5.0 PROCEDURE: 5.1 Take 25 m water sample in a test tube 5.2 Add one spoon of TH1 and mix the content well to dissolve. 5.3 Add 20 drops to TH2 and mix the content well to dissolve. 5.4 If water turns blue, it indicates there is no hardness. 5.5 If colors turn pink or red, it indicates there is a hardness. 5.6 Now drop wise add TH3 and count the nos. of drop while mixing until the color changes to blue. 5.7 If expected hardness of the test sample is more than 40 then use TH4 instead of TH3 5.8 Now the do the calculation as follows; Total hardness of PPM CaCO3 = 2 X (Nos. of Drops of TH3) = 5 X (Nos. of Drop of TH4) |
